It's here!

Just like clockwork, summer arrived in Seattle on July 5.  And it was like a big weather knife switch in the sky was thrown - the change was sudden, profound, and welcome.

I know that much of the rest of the US has been suffering with triple digit temperatures, but we up here in the upper left hand corner of the country have had high temps in the 50's and low 60's for our "summer"...  up until July 5.  Then BOOM!

And we have Adam & Kaci out on the boat this weekend - the timing could not be better!  I've always wanted them to be able to experience true summer cruising, but it seems that we've always picked crummy  cold or cold/rainy times to have them aboard.  I'm really looking forward to this weekend!

We would be one of the sufferers...record high temps last week of 108°. You know it's bad when 99° starts to look cool...

Enjoy the weather for us.

I was always amazed when we lived in Poulsbo - 4 July was with sweatshirts and rain gear - and 55 degrees. 5 July through Sept - not a drop of rain.

Deb -

I remember hot summers (but not that hot!) on Carlyle. One morning in particular, where when we woke up it was hot, calm, and the water was covered with hatching mosquito larvae as far as the eye could see.

See my take on the Seattle seasons...

Ahhh. Now I understand your references to Woebegone. I like that scheme for seasons. You really do need five designations to properly describe the seasons there.

But sometimes there is an interruption in the cycle. Although we never experienced this, our (ex)neighbors informed us that in the year we transferred away from Poulsbo (1998) there was no summer. July, August, and September just continued cold and rainy.

Rick -

Last year was the same way - no summer. That's why this year's is so precious...
